Declare Flag Day a National Holiday!

The red maple leaf is in all our hearts. New Democrats want to put it in our calendars, too.

The party has introduced a bill to declare February 15—Flag Day—a national holiday. It’s time to fully recognize this powerful symbol and give Canadians this chance to reflect on the privileges and responsibilities of living in this great country.

National Flag Day would give families another opportunity to spend quality time together. Canadians are working harder than ever, earning less money than they did 20 years ago and putting in more overtime hours. Canadians deserve a break. And they deserve this chance to honour themselves. February 15 marks the day when our maple leaf was first flown over Parliament Hill in Ottawa. It is a day to remember and to cherish.
